Rooftops in Paris

on

These have been on my mind today and although I don’t necessarily know too much about their design (for now) or how they came to be, I know only that they’re beautiful. And isn’t that ok sometimes, to know nothing about something (or someone) except that it’s beautiful and brings you joy to see it (or them)…?

Many visit Paris to see the world famous attractions – the Eiffel Tower, the Notre Dame Cathedral, to walk along the River Seine or enjoy dinner and a show at the Moulin Rouge theatre – all incredible and breathtaking experiences! Every now and then however, I like to look up and find a different vantage point or view to focus on.

In Paris in particular, I absolutely love the residential rooftops. The coloring is soft and somewhat ‘washed out’ and each rooftop is lined with rows of cylindrical chimneys that make me think of the valve stems on the trumpet, as if they’re waiting to be pushed up and down, and then I wonder what it would sound like. I’m also reminded of Mary Poppins and the chimney sweeps that danced on the rooftops…it just seems like such a magical part of the house. It brings Santa Clause to the tree at Christmas time and that’s a wonderful thing, right?!

Especially when the skies are misty and grey, like smoke wafting out of these chimneys, my thoughts drift to dreams of sitting on rooftops with good friends; sharing blankets and good stories, sipping on delicate French wines while waiting for the stars to break through and taking a moment to toast all things wonderful! Ahhh, wouldn’t that be great…?!

La vie est belle!
